Five Favourites

I've swapped my usual red polish for H&M's delightful Miss Stone Heart in grey

I can't believe we've been home from our Europe trip for a whole month. Life has well and truly settled back into normality, but my 'travel feet' are feeling itchy again and I'm already dreaming up our next holiday! As well keeping an eye out for travel deals I also caught up with my sister Georgi for a girls night this week. Think Marlborough pinot noir, chocolate gingernuts and a stack of old DVD favourites like Gosford Park and When You Were Sleeping. Here's five other things which made me smile this week. Have a wonderful weekend!

Damien Hirst Exhibition

Last week I attended the opening of Damien Hirst's The Dead And The Souls exhibition at the Gow Langsford Gallery in Auckland. My favourite work was a collection of about 30 individual metallic butterflies and skulls which were grouped together in a perfect grid. It looked so exquisite that I'll be back for another peek before the exhibition wraps on August 27.

Look Book: Vintage Vogue

Dress Zara, Belt vintage, Shoes Glassons, Clutch Bershka, Watch Guess

I love the simple silhouette of this Zara shift dress. It was the ideal piece to explore the area around our Place de Vosges Paris apartment and took me from galleries during the day to wine beside the Seine at night. I paired the maroon and white print with my favourite ballet flats, a woven leather belt and charcoal oversized clutch.

Pistachio and chocolate ice cream kept me refreshed one hot Paris afternoon

Some couples enjoy traveling together, while others share a love for films, books or art. While my husband and I both enjoy all the above, we also love to cook together and discover new cafes, bars and restaurants. So you can imagine how excited I was to travel to Paris and discover the seemingly endless array of sweet treats. Here are just a few of my favourite finds. Enjoy your weekend!

Paris Adventure

Paris was the last stop on our Europe trip and together with London was my favourite city. Every morning we walked from our Place des Vosges apartment to a nearby patisserie for pain au chocolat and cafe au lait before wandering the Louvre, queuing to get into Musee d'Orsay’s extraordinary Manet exhibition, and trawling local fashion boutiques. We also discovered out of the way cafes and sampled French cuisine like escargot, foie gras and macarons. What is your favourite thing about Paris?

French lavender reminds me of my Papa's country garden

I can't believe its already been two weeks since I came back from Europe! It seems like yesterday that I was walking through the Louvre, sipping cafe au lait by the river and enjoying one to many maracrons. But there hasn't been much time to miss it with this week's work deadlines and interviews with Dr Oz and Audrina Patridge. This weekend I'm looking forward to taking a mini country break and spending time with my in-laws. Meanwhile, here are five things which make me happy. What do you have planned this weekend?

A Day In Barcelona

With Barcelona only three hours away from Valencia it seemed silly to miss out on seeing the city and Gaudi's Sagrada Familia. Walking in the door of the church and starring up at the ethereal ceiling and soaring pillars stopped me in my tracks. It was beautiful and so much better then all the photos I remember studying in art history class at school. We took the lift up one of the towers for a view of the city far below and later soaked up the sun and local music in Park Guell. A perfect day...

Look Book: Valencia Street Art

Top H&M, Skirt H&M, Bangles Cotton On, Shoes Glassons, Satchel vintage, Watch Guess, Necklace Equip

When traveling I sometimes like to avoid the tourist sites and instead wander the streets, sit in a little cafe and watch the locals go about their daily life. Its often the way you stumble across a hidden gem of a restaurant or in our case this incredible street art in Valencia, Spain. I loved the vibrant colours, bold text and quirky make-believe characters and couldn't resist stopping for a photo.

A Week In Valencia

It was sad saying goodbye to my brother at the end of our four days in London, which you can read about here. But I quickly fell in love with Valencia's Renaissance and Baroque style architecture, little sidewalk tapas bars and icy sangria. One of my favourite mornings was spent escaping the 35C plus degree heat in the bustling indoor Mercado Central food market. The market was full of locals buying and selling a range of meat, fish, fruit, vegetables and the most beautiful artisan breads and pastries. A real feast for the senses. Have a wonderful weekend and look out for more posts about my time in Spain and Paris next week!

What's In My Bag: Hand Luggage

One thing I hate about traveling is twiddling my thumbs for hours in an airport lounge waiting for my plane to board. So each flight I like to come prepared with a few hand luggage essentials which include a copy of my favourite magazine, here British Vogue's July ageless style issue. From top right; Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Lip Protector Stick in Sheer Tint. Bobbi Brown mascara. The Aromatherapy Company's Cocoa & Vanilla Hand Wash, as there's nothing worse then catching germs and arriving at your destination sick. Maybelline New York Dream Matte Powder, which as you can see is a daily favourite. Sunglasses for a celebrity style glamour and to hide behind post flight. Marc Jacob's Lola perfume and Revlon Perle eyeshadow in Sunlit Sparkle. What are your hand luggage essentials?

London Town

I'm back! It feels wonderful to be home and be able to see friends and family again. Although I have to admit I miss the cafe au lait and pain au chocolate which I had every morning in Paris!

Over the next few weeks I thought I'd share a few photos of our amazing trip which took us to London, Valencia, Barcelona and Paris. In the English capital we caught up with my brother who lives there, saw Buckingham Palace, the Tate Modern and National Galleries, shopped on Oxford St, marveled at Westminster Abbey and I even saw Prince Charles and Camilla as they drove by! I loved the beautiful architecture, culture and friendly English people we met and hope to return again soon.
